People who are grocery shopping are pretty grumpy these days?
And Good Morning,
My stats tell me I haven’t written anything in four months. That can’t be right, but who am I to question stats? And summer just flew by and now we’re in that one month period known as Fall. Leaves are certainly blowing and falling today I’ll tell you.
So I understand that grocery shopping is a pain in the arse these days, everything is too expensive. When I reached for a package of bacon about a month ago I was flabbergasted. I don’t usually buy bacon but I had a powerful hankering for a BLT. It was a $10s!!! Okay, I bought it, i mean, what else was I supposed to do with all the tomatoes people gave me from their gardens? Now, I admit that usually the last two or three slices of bacon eventually turn green in my fridge, but for crying out loud, Sven and I were going to eat this $10 bacon if it killed us. And maybe it will someday. Who knows? All I know is that we ate it. All of it. And one of the cats licked up the grease that was left in the pan.
Anyway, about those grumpy people. I think some of it remains from the Covid Mask Wearing Era. People shopping seemed to think if you had half your face covered up, no one could see the other half either. There was little to no eye contact. Like you were going to catch Covid from looking into someone’s eyes. No one said hello. No one said excuse me. Even if they had rammed their cart into your legs. No one said thank you. No one said good bye. It was like the day of the dead. Zombies.
And that was when people could still afford to buy groceries. And eat what they wanted.
And now, masks are done with for the most part. And some people still don’t make eye contact, etc. I wish some of them would put a mask back on to cover up their grumpy faces.
Oh, and I paid $5 for a small bag of potato chips. $11 for a bottle of Dove body wash. (Actually I decided to pass on that.) My favorite candy bar was almost $3. Do I see a trend? Yes I do. But I will have a rant about that at a later date.
And that brings me to Trader Joe’s. It’s like a whole different world in there! Everyone is happy! The people working there float by in their Hawaiian shirts, offering assistance. Assistance! For Pete’s sake, when does that ever happen? Customers? They are happy, too! Prices are decent yet. You get your groceries checked out by a happy person who actually talks to you in a cheerful way! And your total isn’t going to make you want to cry! Heck, I think I’ll go there today. Just to see some smiling faces and hear the bell ring! No, I don’t know why it rings, but I’m sure it’s because something good happened.
Adios
