but Covid-19? I know you thought I was going to say “but fear itself.”
I will say that that phrase spoken by President Franklin Roosevelt during a time of war for our country and the world, were spoken to calm a nation of people worried about their immediate future. Most people alive at that time had already been through one horrific world war, the deadly “Spanish Flu,” and the depression. All these events caused widespread death and loss of livelihoods. FDR’s message seemed to do the trick, because people dug in and helped the war effort in what ever way they could. I think we were still a country where individuals took responsibility for themselves and took things into their own hands to help without just simply waiting for the government to pay them to do nothing. In fact instead of that, (payment to do nothing) FDR’s government came up with work (Civilian Conservation Corps or CCC) for people to do and get paid for. A lot of people at the time thought it was a bad idea, but, it seems to have worked.
Anyway, besides Covid, I think for me anyway, I’m more worried about what’s happening in Washington D.C. What is President Biden going to do next? What bad policy? What poor decision is next?
The funny thing about fear is that to really conquer it, a person must have faith. Faith in someone, faith in something, faith in a Diety. Faith. A belief that things will be alright, maybe not the way that was planned, but alright. I don’t know how anyone lives without that, without faith.
That’s what President Roosevelt did for the citizens of the United States, gave them faith that we will get through the horrible time of war and life will go on.
I think our country is suffering from a lack of faith. In our leaders, in our institutions, in the general citizenry. Our leaders, don’t inspire faith in the least.
And frankly, I feel sorry for Joe Biden. I think he’s crumbling before our very eyes. I’ve become one of the increasing numbers of people who think he is being controlled by someone else. I can’t believe Joe Biden wants to see the demise of this country as it was founded. Did he stay in politics his entire life for the opportunity to become president of the United States of America so that age 78 he could say, ”I finally brought this country to its knees.” I don’t think he hates America that much, if at all, but someone sure does. Hmmm…I wonder what a certain former president is up to these days?
Well, I’d better get the sheets on the bed or we’ll be sleeping on the floor tonight.
Ciao
