I have made somewhat of a decision about the holidays that we use to call Holydays. According to autocorrect, that isn’t even a word anymore. Anyway, I’m not 100% sure that I will be able to follow through on my new decision because I’m kind of nice.
So here it is. Let’s start with Christmas. At the rate our country is becoming communist, I don’t think we’ll be having many more Christmases. I’m pretty sure that there are a lot of children who don’t even know what Christmas symbolises and why we celebrate it. Some of us think we’re too smart for religion, and others are just too dang lazy. I guess. My truth. My opinion. So why should I continue to invite, for instance, Sven’s relatives for Christmas dinner? Why would that be any different than inviting them for Tuesday dinner? Why invite a group of atheists to celebrate the birth of Christ? If we feel the need to socialise with family, I guess it’s Welcome to Taco Tuesday.
This, of course, applies to Easter as well. The major Christian Holyday and I’ve got a bunch of atheists eating my food and drinking my wine. This actually no longer makes sense to me. I don’t even feel the need to get together with people who don’t reciprocate by inviting me and Sven for Atheistday, or invite us to their houses for whatever they think Christmas and Easter are. Which appear to be days to eat inordinate amount of snacks and dinner foods, and drink copious amounts of alcohol.
Anyway, it reminds me of the old Joni Mitchell song “Big Yellow Taxi.” “Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone.”
So long!
