Musings Over 50

I just read an interesting article in the paper. As unlikely as it sounds, bookstores are making a comeback during our Covid Journey. People are reading more. And buying actual books. And sharing those with others. While a lot of people are still working from home, they are using the time gained from not having to travel, or for that matter, get ready for work, to read. And we are apparently getting tired of looking at screens. (Just keep reading this anyway.)

There is something comforting about reading a physical book. Maybe it’s because that’s how us older people learned how to read and were read to. Maybe. But I must admit that I do not like reading library books. That’s how most of my reading was done growing up.

I loved them then. I could read anything I wanted. I could ignore what ever that smear on the page was, or the brown cracking pages, and that smell. I guess that was just the smell of brown crackling pages and years of smears of all sorts.

So as Martha Stewart might say, “It’s a good thing” that people are reading books. And I would agree.

Enjoy the day!
