Musings over 50

And Good Morning,

So what has changed for me during Covid?

I used to get up a 6am to tutor reading at a public school. The teacher I worked with retired at the end of the school year before Covid. Then I took a year off. The public schools are virtual this year. So no need to get up at 6. And there is virtually (no pun intended haha) no way to tutor reading virtually. I was a volunteer.

While having my coffee and granola bar, reading the paper has shrunken to reading the comics only. The rest is too depressing. And of course I still do the crossword puzzle and cryptogram.

As mentioned previously, I’m walking more. That’s a good thing.

A lot of people were saying what a terrible summer they had due to Covid, but I thought it was one of the best summers in a long time. I’ll explain. While my husband was working from home (and I was feverishly trying to look busy) we fell into a kind of rhythm. There was the 2 o’clock cookie and tea break, but what I really loved was at 5pm when he was finished with work, my husband would mix up a couple of cocktails while I put together a small plate of hors doeurves. We would have this treat on the patio when the day was finally cooling off, and enjoy the birds chirping in what we call our postage stamp backyard. It might be small, but it’s very private and in the early evening, it’s beautiful. The rest of the day it looks like crap. This was the high point of the day for me. Just enjoying outside. Loved it.

And then he went back to work at his office and now it’s fall.

Enjoy the day!
